Essential Phone gets February 2018 security patch NMK24B

Just a day after Google released February security patch for it’s Nexus and Pixel phone, Essential phone also started getting the latest monthly security patch from it’s manufacturer. The February security patch for Essential Phone PH-1 arrives as build NMK24B and weighs around 65MB, the February security patch includes patches for a critical vulnerability found in the firmware.

Google has patched the most severe vulnerability that enable a remote attacker to use a specially crafted file to execute unauthorized code within the context of a privileged process in the Media framework.

The update also bring multiple other improvements in the firmware so we recommend you to keep your phone updated regarding firmware updates. If you are already running NMJ88C build then you will be getting the OTA on your device anytime soon.

Just follow these simple steps to catch the OTA manually and install on your device. Before you begin the process charge your device to minimum 70% to avoid shut down happening during the process.

  • Unlock your device.
  • Open the settings app from the app drawer
  • Now head to about phone section and then system updates.
  • Give a check to system updates, please make sure your device is connected to a working internet connection.
