Samsung $2000 Galaxy Fold Displays Broke just after a Day

Samsung is once again in the heat after it’s previous failure of Note 7 and now it’s most fancy unit the Galaxy Fold seems not fit with the technology that makes this device unique and the only one of it’s kind.

Samsung Galaxy Fold is officially out in the market with the most charming folding display but with one of the highest price tag that a phone can ever have of about $1980. Well this all is acceptable only if the device acts according to the way it was announced and under this price tag durability should be the main focus for the manufacturer.

Well soon after the Galaxy Fold units were distributed to the media and reviewers this Monday and just after a day, lot of news are coming out along some pictures and videos, showing the failed display of Galaxy Fold and in many cases a broken display is also seeking people’s attention.

There are various reasons behind this massive failure of such an expensive device, and according to some reviewers, the upper sheet is a protective layer and it is part of the display and it is not supposed to be peeled off. Removing it or adding other protectors can damage the screen. Well, this information is also written clearly in the instructions of device but the way it is pasted over the main display, seems more like a protector and naturally everyone will remove it without a second thought. It’s all about how Samsung educated their Galaxy Fold customers.

Apparently this seems to be the real issue behind the damaged displays of the effected devices but according to another credible reviewer of the verge, his review unit developed a bulge that is because if some thing behind the screen or under the hinge. That eventually broke the screen. There are tons of other pictures popping out showing the damaged device with in just couple of days of normal use. Here, have a look at different tweets from Samsung Galaxy Fold owners.

Steve Kovach posted a video on his twitter account showing the left screen of Galaxy Fold flickering.

Samsung Response to Galaxy Fold Screen issues

Well before launching the device, according to Samsung they tested the Galaxy Fold with the folding scenario by opening and closing the device for 200,000 times and it successfully passed the threshold number. Here, watch it’s video below.

Now after these issues, Samsung came up with a statement of,

A limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review. We have received a few reports regarding the main display on the samples provided. We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter.

Separately, a few reviewers reported having removed the top layer of the display causing damage to the screen. The main display on the Galaxy Fold features a top protective layer, which is part of the display structure designed to protect the screen from unintended scratches. Removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. We will ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers.

Well let’s see how Samsung will address this issue for one of it’s most anticipated device and addressing this issues with a solution must be provided for the future of this technology. This is also common that whenever a new technology emerges, it is not perfect at all but after research and learning from user experience things get improves and it’s successors comes out with nearly perfection. But in Samsung Galaxy Fold case, there future of folding displays lies on it. If they fail to provide any reliable solution for this, then it will remain in people head for years and they will never trust these folding displays.
