Root and install official TWRP recovery on HTC U11 (ocn)

Official TWRP v3.1.1-0 custom recovery is now available for HTC U11 ‘ocn’. It’s been a month since HTC released this device and fortunately official TWRP recovery has been released now. In this guide you’ll not only able to install TWRP recovery on HTC U11 but also root your device as well. First we will show you how to install TWRP recovery on HTC U11 and then you need to flash the SuperSU root package to get root access on HTC U11. The process is very easy because each and every step is mentioned below, just need to follow them in sequence to root and install TWRP recovery on HTC U11.

Before you begin:

Charge your device battery to a safe level, it must be above 70%

Download and install latest HTC drivers on PC. Download here

Install ADB & Fastboot drivers on PC, follow this guide to install the adb-fastboot drivers within 15 seconds.

Enable USB debugging on your device. Go to Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.

If you can’t see the Developer options in settings menu, then you need to enable them. Go to Settings > About device > Tap the build number 7 times until it says ‘You are now a Developer’.

Process to install official TWRP recovery on HTC U11

Download official TWRP recovery for Americas HTC U11 (ocn). Download [twrp-3.1.1-0-ocn.img]

Download official TWRP recovery for Europe HTC U11 (ocn). Download [twrp-3.1.1-0-ocn.img]

Save the downloaded official TWRP recovery file in a new folder on your PC.

Process to root HTC U11

Download the SuperSU zip from this link.

Connect your device to PC and copy the downloaded SuperSU zip on the internal storage of your device.

Now it’s the time to reboot your device into TWRP recovery mode.

To do so, turn off your phone completely.

Now press Volume Down + Power at the same time until it enters fastboot mode, now highlight the recovery option using volume keys and use Power button to select it. This time you’ll select the recovery mode.

Your device will enter recovery, now flash the SuperSU zip from there.

Once done, simply reboot your device and enjoy the freedom to flash custom ROMs and tweaks on your HTC U11.
