Finally Essential Phone PH-1 has started getting the Stable Android 8.1 Oreo update from Essential. The company earlier announced to skip the Android 8.0 release and decided to jump directly to Android 8.1 Oreo update. Last month the company seeded Android 8.1 Oreo beta 1 and after a month later today, Android 8.1 Oreo carrying build number OPM1.180104.092 is released for all which includes users already on beta 1 and non beta users.

If you are already running Android 8.1 Oreo beta 1 then you might probably be getting the OTA notification anytime soon, the update weighs in at roughly 275.8MB for those on android 8.1 Beta 1. You can head to Settings > About device > System updates to manually check for the OTA or proceed below to download the OPM1.180104.092 factory image for Essential Phone PH-1 and install it manually on your device.

The Android 8.1 Oreo update doesn’t bring so much instead a few tweaks and improvements in the system. Great news is that the company tossed in March 2018 security patch and dynamic calendar and clock icons. Slow Scrolling Jitter has been Fixed that could add some much needed stability and smoothness to the Essential Phone’s user experience.

Before you begin:

Install latest USB drivers if necessary. Download them here

You need to set up adb and fastboot drivers on PC, follow this guide to install them right away.

Unlock bootloader on your Essential Phone, follow this guide to unlock it right away.

Enable USB Debugging on Essential Phone. Go to Settings > Developer options > USB Debugging.

A Working USB Cable is required.
