How to install google apps on Huawei Mate 9 (Chinese variant)

In this short tutorial we’ll show you how to install Google Apps a.k.a gapps on Chinese variant of Huawei Mate 9. As you know most of the Chinese variant of multiple OEM doesn’t support Google apps, the Google services are available for the rest of devices shipped outside China. So if you own a Huawei Mate 9 Chinese variant and wish to install Google apps on it then you are at the right place.

Google apps are the main apps used to run the proper functionality of an Android based device. The Google a.k.a gapps have a set of main apps like, Google Play store, Gmail, Google plus including social and other utility apps useful for daily life. A device without Google apps is useless, instead you can use it for sending SMS messages and watch movies etc.

We are just explaining the process but the main credit goes to an XDA member ‘ajsmsg78’, who has shared the Google apps gapps from his own Mate 9 carrying MHA-L29 US version. This Google apps package for all those who have a Huawei Mate 9 with no Google apps. How to install Google Apps on Huawei Mate 9 (Chinese variant)

Before you begin:

Charge your device to a safe level say above 60%.

Back your complete device by creating Nandroid backup (Very important). Here is the guide to create a Nandroid back up.

Download Google Apps for Huawei Mate 9. (Mate_9_Gapps.zip)

Extract the Mate_9_Gapps.zip

Process to install Google Apps or gapps on Chinese Huawei Mate 9

Connect your device to PC and transfer the extracted Google Apps package to the device storage. If your device is not detected by the PC, you should install the latest USB drivers, you can download them here.

Now open file manager on your device.

Locate the copied ‘Mate_9_Gapps’ package and again copy it but this time paste it into System/Priv-app directory.

Long press the gapps file and tap on permission, set them to 0755.
