How to enable root access for Apps on Lineage OS ROM

In this guide we’ll show you how to enable root access for apps on official Lineage OS ROM. Official Lineage OS 14.1 Nightly builds are rolling out for the those devices which are previously supported by Cyanogenmod 14.1 ROM. As you all know, CyanogenMod is closed now and Lineage OS has completely taken it’s place, there is no difference in between both CM ROM and Lineage OS ROM.

The only difference between CyanogenMod and Lineage OS is that, CyanogenMod gives you permission to enable the root access for App and ADB, Apps only or ADB only. Whereas Lineage OS 14.1 ROM doesn’t supports root access fully except ADB, the only way to enable the root access for Apps on Lineage OS ROMs is by flashing the SU addon zip file.

Team Lineage don’t want to give you tuff time infact they have done this for the security reason, enabling root access to every app on your device is dangerous for your device. Any dirty app can harm your device by controlling your device remotely with access to complete data stored on your device. Team Lineage also provided that SU addon zip for your ease, just flash it via TWRP recovery on your device and that will enable root access for Apps as well.

How to enable root access for Apps on Lineage OS

Download the SU addon zip for your device according to it’s hardware.

Download Lineage SU addon.zip [ARM]

Download Lineage SU addon.zip [ARM64]

Download Lineage SU addon.zip [x86]

Before you begin:

TWRP recovery on your device must be installed. If you don’t have it, follow this guide to install it. If you got a Samsung device follow this guide.

Now connect your device to PC and transfer the downloaded SU addon zip file on the internal storage of your device.

It’s the time to turn off your device and reboot it to recovery mode.

Once in recovery, tap on ‘Install’ and choose the SU addon zip file you transferred above.

Swipe the slider to confirm the flash.

Once the flash process process is completed. Go back and reboot your device.

How to enable root option for apps on Lineage OS

Unlock your device and navigate to Settings > Developer options

If you can’t see, Developer options in Settings menu, simple go to About device section and tap the build number option 7 times until it says you are now a Developer.

Now enter Developer options and choose the option Root access.

Enable the root access for Apps or ADB or Apps only. Choose the option as per your choice.
